Everyone is thrilled when Kally and James return for another visit to the Phoenix House.  This time, they bring Kally's brother Enjolras along with a large, charitable donation to assist in the rebuilding of Shaldani.  Unfortunately, Enjolras and Kally both seem to be suffering a bit of a cold that only affects immortals.  The Phoenix Fighters are only too happy to help them take it easy.  Kally will have none of it, however.  After insisting that she is not sick, she goes around the House, paying visits to everyone and spreading a generally positive and cheery feeling.

Kally finds Tranns in the pool one afternoon to congratulate her on her engagement with Lucien.  Tranns is less than enthusiastic about the whole arrangement, leading Kally to question her motives.  Through the course of the conversation, it is gradually revealed that Tranns isn't entirely convinced that she wants to marry Lucien.  Given his recent history of running away and leaving her, however, she has become convinced that marrying him is the only way that she'll be able to guarantee that he stays with her.  Kally is horrified at this notion and urges Tranns to talk through her feelings with Lucien.  Tranns, however, refuses.  In her mind, it's better to just leave things the way they are.  Kally is not so convinced.

The next morning, everything in the Phoenix House seems perfectly normal.  That is, until Aden, after hearing a rather hare-brained idea from Ariadne, tells her to "go fly a kite."  The next thing anyone knows, Ariadne is outside, flying a kite.  The day gets progressively weirder and soon, the men of the House realize that any command they give to the women, whether intended or otherwise, is immedicately carried out.  While this is most troubling for Aden, Lucien finds it horribly amusing and takes some advantage, leading to an enormous fight with Tranns.

A few days later, the men of the House wake to find that all the women are gone.  Philip, using his newly inherited Andorian abilities, manages to track down Ariadne, who is found stuffed in a cabinet with a broken nose, unable to move or speak.  Philip orders her to tell him what happened and Ariadne relates that Noonien Kaur returned to the House in the middle of the night.  When he realized that all the women were under his command, he ordered them all to follow him, except for Ariadne who he claimed he didn't want because she was Andorian.  Instead, he ordered her to break her own nose so she couldn't follow him, then shoved her into the cabinet.

The men of the House surmise that Noonien Kaur has taken all the women to aid in his unending quest to find the perfect mate to produce "superior" offspring.  Philip and Enjolras immediately set out to find the women, Philip using his enhanced sense of smell.  The two of them share an uneasy tension as they go, Philip reflecting on the fact that Enjolras could very well be his future as a lonely immortal.  Meanwhile, across the border in Ithica, Noonien's intentions are revealed to Adriana.  He has chosen her to be the mother of his next child since he believes that, as the leader of the Phoenix Fighters, a group of extremely compotent and skilled warriors, she must be the best of the best.

Fortunately, Philip and Enjolras arrive at Noonien's hideaway.  Noonien orders Adriana to attack Philip, but Philip counters by ordering Tranns to attack Noonien.  A battle breaks out as each of the men tries to use one of the women to his advantage.  It is Enjolras who eventually turns the tide of the battle, however, by ordering all of the women to think only in Hylian.  With that, they are unable to comprehend Noonien's commands, given to them in Common,  Speaking Hylian, Philip manages to knock Noonien unconscious.  Enjolras delivers him into the hands of a constable.  Everyone returns to the Phoenix House where it is revealed that Kally caused the spell, in the hopes of getting Tranns to open up to Lucien about her feelings.  Since Kally was sick, the spell went wrong.  Once it is lifted, Tranns and Lucien finally speak and agree to suspend their engagement for a little while.
