It is a time of celebration in Shaldani.  To honor six months free of the Ebene, a royal ball is held.  The guest of honor, naturally, is the new monarch of Shaldani...King Robin.  Everyone is happy to celebrate Robin, most of all, Adriana, but Ariadne feels uneasy in his presence.  Going off by herself to reflect upon her feelings, Ariadne encounters a man trying to sneak into the royal apartments.  He introduces himself as Hunter and asks where Princess Laura has gone.  When Ariadne tells him that the entire royal family moved out after handing the throne over to Robin, Hunter is quite puzzled.  He claims to have no memory of these events.

Meanwhile, the celebrations continue with a three-day festival to honor Robin.  As he basks in the glow of adoration from the people of Shaldani, Robin finds himself the object of much attention from Adriana.  Robin attempts to engage her, nearly going to the point of an affair several times, but something seems to be holding him back and Adriana cannot figure out what it is.

On the second day of the festival, the Phoenix Fighters are surprised when a strange monster with unusual markings attacks the village near Harper Palace.  Ariadne rushes into battle and is surprised to find Hunter fighting at her side.  As they deal damage to the monster, Robin and Adriana arrive.  Immediately, the monster loses all interest in the villagers and starts to chase Robin.  The two of them vanish from sight and everyone praises Robin for saving the day once again.

Hunter tells Ariadne that the markings indicate that the monster was created by a Ra Family spell.  This spell allows the caster to recreate him or herself as a paragon to be worshipped and idolized.  The cost of this spell, however, is the creation of the monster, in order to balance out all the forces in the world.  Hunter assumes that Robin cast such a spell for himself and Ariadne starts to believe him.  Just as this conversation is taking place, however, Robin catches wind of what's happening.  He immediately orders Philip to lead the werewolves out to arrest Hunter and bring him back to the palace, dead or alive.

When Philip and his men show up, Ariadne quickly pulls Hunter into a portal and far away.  This has the consequence of putting a warrant out for her own arrest, much to Philip's annoyance.  As Philip and his werewolves track Ariadne's scent, Hunter and Ariadne go out looking for the monster.  They find it and start to fight again, this time bring it close to death.  Robin and Adriana arrive just in time to see the fray.  Robin vanishes and Ariadne deals the killing blow.  As the monster dies, everyone is left very confused, uncertain of what's been going on the past few days.  They know they've been worshipping someone, but they don't know who.

Ariadne is rewarded by Aislinn for killing the monster when the northern forest is named a sancutary for Andorians.  Hunter refuses to accept any credit for his part in the battle, but he is rewarded in another way, when Ariadne arranges for him to have his first meeting with Casey.  Meanwhile, Adriana has pieced together enough of what has happened to realize that it had to have been Robin who cast the spell.  She asks Tristan to arrange for a meeting between the two, during which Adriana begs Robin to wait for her, to pursue a romance once Aden has died.  Robin angrily refutes her however, reminding her that he can never love her.  As Adriana leaves, though, he starts to consider seeking out a way to make it so.
