Quinn catches Warren lurking around Casey's cottage one morning, examining her various scientific experiments.
As the two of them talk, Warren reveals some serious doubts about Casey and her Ra blood, making her out to be a dangerous
force, grown even more dangerous by her new Nilfheim gifts. Quinn soundly rebukes Warren's accusations, but admits to
some curiosity about Casey's parentage. Warren suggests that Quinn use the magical mirror of the Seventh Dimension,
which can depict scenes of the past and present, to learn the truth. After debating the matter for a little quie, Quinn
approaches Casey about going to see the truth about her father. Hesitantly, she accepts the invitation.
In the mirror, the duo first see Laura at the age of sixteen. She is a young, impressionable girl who wants a family
and to fall in love. These dreams are shattered, however, when she told by her father that
she will be marrying Prince Trey, a man over twice her age. The mirror then skips ahead a few years to a festival by
Lake Elsbeth. Laura is attending alone, as Trey did not want to go. A charming carnival barker
named Hunter convinces her to go through house of mirrors. Unfortunately, Laura becomes lost and get hysterical.
Hunter comes and helps her out, calms her down, and gets her water. They begin conversing about
his travels with the carnival and her unhappy marriage. An instant connection forms. She
promises to come again in a week.
The mirror skips ahead to a few weeks later. Laura and Hunter lie together beside the lake after making love.
Laura questions Hunter about his red eyes and he admits that he is one fourth Ra. He works with the carnival, in the
house of mirrors, because he knows that mirrors repel members of the Ra family and it has kept him safe for many years.
Hunter invites Laura to come with him and travel the realm. She refuses, but promises to come visit him the next time
the carnival returns, in about a year. Hunter, meanwhile, promises to collect postcards for her from every place he
visits. A year later, the carnival comes back. Laura doesn’t go, but Hunter comes to see her.
Laura is hesitant to tell Hunter about Casey, but her presence is eventually revealed. Hunter asks
to see the baby and immediately knows that he is the father. She has red eyes. Laura
tells Hunter that the royal family cannot see him and sends him away. He leaves her the postcards and she promises to
visit him at the carnival in a year.
For the next few years, Hunter keeps
trying to visit Casey and Laura but Laura always sends him away. The mirror jumps to five years later.
The royal family attends the carnival together. Hunter pulls Laura aside and asks about Casey and
all of Laura's broken promises. Laura says Casey has died and that it's for the best if they do not meet
again. Heartbroken, Hunter gives Laura a pile of postcards and leaves her alone.
The mirror jumps ahead to a few years ago. Laura, in hiding with the rest of the royal family, sneaks outside and
finds Hunter waiting for her. Hunter confronts Laura because he reads about Casey in Lex’s articles.
She says the royal family would have killed both of them if they had ever seen Hunter. Furiously, Hunter scolds
Laura for the way she's treated him, especially since he is in love with her. Laura is shocked and touched by his
confession and admits that she loves him too. Hunter and Laura fall into each other’s arms.
Once more, the mirror skips ahead. An older and wiser Hunter and Laura are holding each other close, talking about Casey.
Hunter asks Laura about his daughter’s first words, favorite foods, first day of school, childhood pets, and
so on. There is an obvious warmth and affection to the scene.
Back in the present, Casey is left stunned by all she has seen. Quinn feels guilty, but also urges her to go talk
to her mother now that she knows the truth. He further adds that perhaps it's time for her to meet her father.
Casey is very hesitant, but agrees to consider the opportunity before deciding one way or the other.
