When a woman dies giving birth in the Tin Roof, Kit arranges with Lex to have the baby girl, apparently half Hylian and
half Risan, to be transported to a Sullivan Orphanage in Beigor. During her stay in the Phoenix House, the baby, dubbed
Pepper by Aden, is embraced by Lucien who decides he wants to adopt her. After convincing a reluctant Tranns, he officially
calls off Lex's arrangements with the orphanage. Casey insists on running a few tests on Pepper to make sure she's healthy.
It is then she makes a remarkable discovery. According to Casey's tests, Pepper possesses DNA from over eight different
species, a genetic impossibility.
In order to investigate the mystery, Lucien, Casey, and Tranns head over to Sybok to examine the Hylian mother's body.
Unfortunately, Kit informs them she has already burned it. She mentions that she got to know the mother - Leandra Hickes
- a little bit and learned that she was a Shaldani native. She suggests that they investigate the old Hall of Records,
a Shaldani public office currently being occupied by the Ebene, in the hopes of learning more about her and her husband, a
Risan named Lao Mah.
The trio make their way to the Hall of Records. They find their way in easily, none of the doors being guarded
by Ebene. Inside, they discover a beautiful, lavishly kept homestead that seems to be occupied by a single woman named
Daphne. She explains that she is a Polarian, an airborn race often mistaken for stars, and that she was taken in
after she fell from the sky by a kindly woman who gave her shelter. The threesome are shocked to learn, however, that
the kindly woman is actually Milady. Even more shocking, Milady does not engage them in battle, but instead gives them
the files on Leandra Hickes without a fuss and allows them to leave.
Outside, Casey explains that Milady probably let them go to keep Daphne from becoming alarmed. Many cut the hearts
out of Polarians to obtain eternal youth, but such hearts only work properly when a Polarian is at inner peace and glowing,
as Daphne was glowing around Milady. The trio resolve to help Daphne escape. Tranns goes back into the Hall of
Records and starts trashing the place, upsetting Daphne. Milady attempts to stop her, but Tranns hits her, causing Milady
to drag her outdoors for a knock down fight.
Casey and Lucien sneak back into the Hall of Records during the fight. They find Daphne in the remains of the debris
from Tranns' rampage. Turning on the charm, Lucien convinces Daphne to leave with them. Outside, Daphne sees Milady's
violence first hand and realizes her true intentions. Milady, however, realizes the purpose of Tranns' distraction.
She attempts to convince Daphne that the Phoenix Fighters are the ones who want to harm her, but Casey's arguements combined
with Lucien's charm convince her who to trust. Milady attempts to take Daphne's heart, but fails.
After Casey floors Milady with a nerve pinch, the others manage to escape and return home. There, the files are
examined, leading to more questions. Leandra Hickes is listed as full Hylian, but Lao Mah turns out to be a Risan woman,
therefore not the father of Pepper. Their last known address turns out to be the Phoenix House. Puzzled, Lucien
and Tranns return to Pepper where they notice her glowing rather like Daphne. In honor of her part Polarian heritage,
they decide to name her Star Misha Argeneau.
