Late for an afternoon meal, Kazuo heads to Mia's room. When he knocks on the door, however, no one answers it.
Letting himself in, he discovers the room in shambles. Everything has been overturned, blood covers the walls, and Sito
is unconscious on the floor. Kazuo calls for help and Philip and Tranns appear. Philip detects that the blood
is not Sito's and Casey is called to the scene. She confirms that it is Mia and Jesse's blood. Sito is taken to
the clinic where Casey tries to revive him, but she is unable and announces that he is in a coma and there is little chance
of him waking up.
Ariadne is sent to explore the many Ebene realms in the hopes that she can pick up Mia or Jesse's scent. In the
meanwhile, Kazuo indulges in alcohol to ease the pain while Tristan all but disappears. Afraid for Cirrus' safety, he
is sent to live in Sybok. Finally, Ariadne returns, explaining that she picked up faint traces of Mia's scent in an
ancient, Ebene conquered realm. Aden assembles a team consisting of Tristan and Kazuo to go on a rescue mission.
Ariadne opens a portal to the Ebene realm for them, promising to reopen it again in one our. The team heads off, leaving
the rest of the House to wait anxiously for their return.
In the other realm, the three of them make their way through a stronghold. Tristan confesses he cannot hear Mia's
thoughts, a fact that makes him very nervous. In addition, Aden cannot detect any magic, using his symbol. They
talk idly of Insa's transformation from a Risan warrior to a prim and proper Hylian lady, all the while, hoping to find Mia.
The sound of a whip draws them into an open chamber where they find Milady on a throne, continually beating a bloodied Mia
who is unconscious and clearly in critical condition.
Kazuo angrily shouts at Milady, trying to get her to stop hurting Mia. Aden demands to know where Jesse is.
Cold and aloof, Milady informs them that Jesse has been sold as a slave in another Ebene realm. She will not tell them
which one. They demand Mia's return, but she threatens to kill her. Tristan then vanishes and uses his powers
to distract Milady. While she is turned around, Kazuo surges forward and attacks her. Aden manages to recover
Mia. Together, he and Tristan urge Kazuo to give up fighting Milady and return with them to the portal point.
They arrive just in time and return to the Phoenix House.
Mia is rushed into the kitchen where Casey and Shawn tend on her. Casey announces that Mia is not breathing and
her pulse is fading. There's only one chance to bring her about and that is to stimulate her mind. She hooks Mia
up to the BTL unit, but it has no effect. As everyone watches, Mia slowly slips away.
Everyone handles their grief in a different way. Ariadne does her best to track down Jesse, but is unable.
Sito is moved permanently into the clinic where Cecilia holds a vigil over him. Aden vows to take care of the other
Fanels at all costs. Tristan and Kazuo struggle to control their pain. Kazuo expresses great guilt over not being
there to protect Mia, especially since she asked him to spend the night before the attack with her. Tristan, in an act
of great compassion, lies to Kazuo and tells him that Mia's last thoughts were of him.
